Dawn Goodall was born in Britain and spent much of her early years enjoying the beautiful English countryside not realizing that some years hence it would play a much larger part in her life. Goodall attended College in Birmingham and began in later study years to be enriched with ideas for stage and costume design. Her portfolio caught the eye of Emile Littler the Impresario who invited her to do further studies in the West end of London.

Dawn however decided to continue work in Birmingham and did not meet up with Littler until some years later. She married in the 50's and moved to America. Finding new and pleasurable time in the countryside of New England, which became the driving force and inspiration for her painting. She used her sketchbook constantly learning ways and byways of nature and the changing seasons. She also befriended well known painters who were delighted with her work and gave her invaluable guidance and tuition establishing for the first time her realm as an artist.

She undertook a journey from New England to Italy and lived for three glorious years in a remote village in the Dolomites. It was a beautiful area, quite primitive but essentially a place for true inspiration an Dawn took every opportunity to study and progress keeping also in mind her early training in theater arts. Information was sparse abut she managed to accumulate guidance from Italian art museums. At the same time learning to speak the language colloquially. Again some of the well known artists of the district offered advice and encouragement and were astounded at Dawns drawing skill.

Dawn returned to America for only a short while an then headed for Britain with the hope of visiting France and the low countries. Her fascination with the early impressionists was the driving force behind her intensions an she settled with a single goal of studying the motives and techniques of that master group which had caused such a stir in the early years and which now was a total fascination.

Alas her visit to the continent was delayed. She had earlier commitments in London to work on interior design for which she was well recommended in fact she almost elected to continue in that field had it not been for an unusual meeting.

Dawn was living with her mother in Eastbourne, a busy coastal town in Sussex and would commute to London and returning to peace and her easel. Dawns work began to change. Although, she was still an impressionist, street scenes and people were emerging on her canvases. She had in mind Edwardian London an Sussex Town locations, parks and genre. It was during one of the painting sessions she met the Hon. John Gage, son of Viscount Gage of Firle House, who showed uncommon interest in her work. Gage owned an art Gallery in Eastbourne and arranged with Dawn a future date for a show of paintings of the Edwardian Era. Now she was truly committed, but strived to complete her design work at the same time painting at every spare moment for the show. Finally the big day came. Dawn had put together a formidable collection. The paintings were all displayed in the foyer gallery and the show was in the evening.

John Gage had many friends who supported his ideas and Eastbourne was a town of art inspired people so the gallery quickly became full and the show was a great success and duly reported so by the media. Gage had a preconceived plan to give the paintings wider exposure and held back all the sold art so it could be displayed at "The Grand" one of the most prodigious hotels on the south coast. This produced all kinds of new connections during those six weeks at The Grand and convinced Dawn that she should devote much more time to painting and less of her other talents.

Dawn had a yearning for America again this time for good. If she was going to paint then she would head west, maybe to California or the desert. In the end Phoenix took precedence and Dawn once again began to paint. Edwardian England ideas were now far behind and it was clear that her true love and inspiration was countryside and gardens. Subjects she continues with today. However she still travels abroad and throughout the United States in the summers so she can paint the mountain flowers, meadows and the streams to keep alive her thought of nature and the hope for permanent existence between man and the good green earth.
